you don't realize how upsetting this catch is to me.
giant squids have always been the mysterious, uncatchable, rare sea monster that we know little about. the stuff of legend, folklore, and Captain Nemo. they've always been kind of magical and surreal to me.
according to that article, not only did they finally catch and videotape a live one, but they also determined the squids might not be so rare after all. whales eat them... like every day.
these facts are all too demystifying for me. my childhood is collapsing under the strain of mythic normalization!!!
way to ruin everything, beans/japanese scientists.
